Words Like Rain
For those who want their words to make a difference.
So with everyone in Israel gathered and listening, Moses taught them the words of this song, from start to finish.
Listen, Heavens, I have something to tell you.
Attention, Earth, I’ve got a mouth full of words.
My teaching, let it fall like a gentle rain,
my words arrive like morning dew,
Like a sprinkling rain on new grass,
like spring showers on the garden.
For it’s God’s Name I’m preaching—
respond to the greatness of our God!
The Rock: His works are perfect,
and the way he works is fair and just;
A God you can depend upon, no exceptions,
a straight-arrow God.Deuteronomy 31:30 – 32:5 MSG
Moses was at the end of his life and he was writing down the stories and songs. God had already told him that it would not be long after he died that the children of Israel would abandon God and break covenant. They needed the reminder of the written Word and the songs of truth.
Moses’ prayer was that the words he was teaching the people would fall like gentle rain and arrive like morning dew in their hearts.
Blessing & Revelation
Rain in the Bible is often a symbol of God’s blessings and revelatory teaching.
Isn’t that what we want our words to be – a blessing to others bringing revelation to their hearts and minds.
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that our words are powerful and they bring either death or life. Your words will make a difference – one way or the other.
Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.
Proverbs 18:21 MSG
My prayer for this coming year is that my words will bring life to others. As I speak I don't want to give my own opinions, but encourage with revelation truth.
Words Make the Difference
Powerful verses about our words:
- The teachings of hypocrites can destroy you, but revelation knowledge will rescue the righteous. Proverbs 11:9 TPT
- A gentle answer deflects anger, but harsh words make tempers flare. Proverbs 15:1 NLT
- Kind words are like honey - sweet to the soul and healthy for the body. Proverbs 16:24 NLT
- Words of wisdom are like a fresh, flowing brook - like deep waters that spring forth from within, bubbling up inside the one with understanding. Proverbs 18:4 TPT
Words can destroy - revelation words rescue! This is an amazing truth. With your words you can bring rescue to others.
What can you say today that will be sweet, healthy, bring life, rescue, and deflect anger?
There are thousands of quotes about the power of words. Here are 3 of my favorites:
- Be mindful when it comes to your words. A string of some that don't mean much to you, may stick with someone else for a lifetime.
Do you remember negative words that were said to you when you were a child? The memory may be vivid in your mind, but the one who spoke to you probably has never thought about those words since that moment.
It’s so easy to rattle of thoughts and opinions that we really don’t mean and can’t even remember a week later. But that string of words coming from your mouth may have a lasting effect on the hearer. Be careful.
Take control of what I say, O Lord, and guard my lips.
Psalm 141:3
- One kind word can change someone's entire day.
A girlfriend was telling me the other day that she had made dinner for her daughter’s family. After we ate I literally felt like a rock star - the kids kept saying “how good it was”....... and boy did I need to hear that. The last few dinners I cooked for them were a dud!
We have all had this happen to us and it feels so encouraging. This grandma went from feeling like a dud to a rock star – all because of kind words.
Make someone’s day. Say something kind and gentle.
Gentle words bring life and health.
Proverbs 15:4
- The words you speak become the house you live in.
I don’t think we realize the power our words have in building our lives and others. Our positive or negative words build the framework for what comes next in our life.
Some of you need to reframe your negative words - I can't, I don't, I won't, I want, I need - with language that gives a better blueprint - I can, I am, I will, I choose, I have, I love, I create, I enjoy.
Now, how can you help someone else strengthen the framework of their life?
Use encouraging words - you can, God is working in your life, I know God will show you the right direction, you are deeply loved, you are a masterpiece, you are strong in God. . .
Life-Giving Words
Think of words spoken to you that have been refreshing and life-giving to your soul.
A person’s words can be life-giving water; words of true wisdom are as refreshing as a bubbling brook.
Proverbs 18:4
Now, go share them with others.
