Mystery

I love a good spy novel; the mystery and intrigue of a whodunit. The kind of novel that is a head-scratcher and secret as to who is the real “bad guy”, why did he do it, and will the “good guy” get there in time to rescue those in trouble. 

“Mystery” is a word that is so, well, mysterious. Synonyms include secret, conundrum, riddle, and enigma.

Winston Churchill used these words to describe a political situation with Russia in 1939: “It is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key.”

Churchill was speaking of something so intricate and secretive that it was totally indecipherable or impossible to foretell, except for the possibility of a key.

The novels I have read are not that difficult to untangle or unlock. The story line has familiarity and with the hero always saving someone’s neck, there is usually only one predicted outcome.

When the mystery is God’s, the key can only come from him, and the outcome seems impossible to us.

When you don't know the next step. . .

I want to encourage you that it is OK for you to be in a place of the "unknown".

• I don't know what my next step is.
• I don't understand.
• This situation doesn't make sense.
• I don't get it.
• This is a mystery to me.

Mysteries are made clear by God.

Relax and sit in the unknown and expectantly wait for the Holy Spirit to bring understanding, insight, and clarity.

Not to be solved by you. . . but revealed by God.
