Here Sweetie, Have a Drink of Water!

It is so easy to get dehydrated.

Do you realize that how thirsty you may feel is not a reliable indicator of your hydration needs?

By the time your throat is dry, you are already in the beginning stages of dehydration.

Signs of Dehydration

Healthcare professionals encourage us to always look for the signs of dehydration:

  • dry throat and lips
  • fatigue
  • headache
  • increased heart rate
  • poor concentration

And there are many more symptoms.

Water is Essential

Water is essential for every system and function of our bodies and has many responsibilities, including building new cells, delivering nutrients, flushing waste, and keeping joints lubricated.

It is also part of the “shock absorber” system of our spine.

When my daughters were young, take a drink of water was the remedy for many of the complaints we heard.

I don’t feel good—here, sweetie, have a sip of water.

My head hurts—have you had any water today?

My legs ache—sounds like you need a big glass of water.

Even at a recent hospital stay when my blood pressure dropped low enough for concern, I responded—yes, it might be the medication, but I think I also might be dehydrated. (We found out it was a little bit of both!)

Have you already noticed the spiritual correlation to water just from this description of our need for water for our physical body?

Spiritually we need to look for the signs too.

  • A parched soul
  • A feeling of emptiness
  • Weakness
  • Our spiritual, emotional, and mental strength has evaporated
  • Life feels sun-scorched

Living Water

Water is the difference between life and death to your physical body and to your spiritual life.

Jesus answered and said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again; but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

(John 4:13-14 NASB)

The living water Jesus is talking about brings life to your spirit. You need this even more than you need to drink a glass of water to keep the balance of a healthy body.

The living water Jesus gives:

  • Brings new life and restoration.
  • Supplies spiritual nutrients for growth and transformation.
  • Flushes the waste and cravings of this world from your soul.
  • Gives you purpose.
  • Is the “shock absorber” you need in every circumstance.

The Well that Never Runs Dry

Is your soul parched and longing to be refreshed? Are you thirsty for what only God can give you?

In my Dig the Well Bible study you will explore Bible stories of wells and living water.

  • You will meet the shame-filled Samaritan woman and experience the fullness of life Jesus has to offer her.
  • You will find Hagar, a woman who feels the pain of being not cared for and insignificant. She discovers the God-Who-Sees-And-Hears.
  • You will unearth the joy and singing that opens the flow of God’s presence and provision into your thirsty day.
  • You will move from arguments and striving in difficult relationships to the wide-open spaces that God provides.
  • You can accept the invitation of Jesus to come, drink, and receive the living water that satisfies your thirsty heart.

Grab your shovel, put your work boots on, and start digging into God’s Word. Like the people in these stories, you will uncover the well that never runs dry. You will discover that God is waiting to invigorate your life with life-giving, life-changing water.

Come. God will give you a full life in the emptiest of places.
