BEHOLD, Jesus is a wonder of a counselor!
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Isaiah 9:6 NLT
WONDER(ful) is an awe-inspiring word that describes the extraordinary and something that happens that is beyond my capabilities. It makes me take notice and awakens astonishment.
Isaiah 9:6 is announcing that Jesus will be born and he will be the Wonderful Counselor.
Jesus is a WONDER as a Counselor, and we are to take notice of his counsel.
Have we lost our sense of WONDER?
Last Christmas I sensed God speak, Becky, don't miss the WONDER. So, I started paying attention to the little things, and that's what birthed this new devotional, Don't Miss The Wonder!
As I baked cookies, wrote Christmas cards, decorated the house, and hosted family gatherings, I kept Jesus in the center of it all. My heart awakened to the story of his birth in a new way, and I sensed the WONDER of his counsel in my every day.
WONDER takes slowing down and pondering.
With the speed of instant gratification available for us at the touch of our fingertips, we can often miss the extraordinary details of God. Our hearts can be dulled by technology instead of awakened with astonishment.
You can change that this Christmas!
You can intentionally stop the culture frenzy that captures you, and instead take notice of WONDER and let it point you to Jesus and his counsel.
Jesus, I am so thankful you are my Wonder of a Counselor. This Christmas season I will look for you every day. Restore the wonder of your birth in my heart.
Open my eyes and let my heart be awakened to the simple, yet beautiful awe moments that you have for me each day. AMEN
