Abiding Resolves, not Broken Resolutions
To this end we always pray for you, that our God may make you worthy of his calling and may fulfill every resolve for good and every work of faith by his power, so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 ESV
Paul, Silas, and Timothy teamed together to write two letters to the Thessalonian congregation of believers, and they are praying that we:
- may live worthy of his calling
- and fulfill every resolve
The Passion translation writes it this way:
We constantly pray that our God will empower you to live worthy of all that he has invited you to experience.
And we pray that by his power all the pleasures of goodness and all works inspired by faith would fill you completely.
By doing this the name of our Lord Jesus will be glorified in you, and you will be glorified in him, by the marvelous grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.
HOW do we fulfill every resolve? By His Power!
WHY do we fulfill every resolve? For His Glory!
What is the solution to yearly broken resolutions?
Getting vision from God and then watching that unfold by His power throughout the year - for His Glory!
All Works, All Resolves, Inspired by Faith
I want to encourage you not to write New Year's resolutions, but invite God to speak prophetic vision into your life with New Year's resolves.
Resolves abide because of his power in your life.
Resolutions break and don't bring God glory.
I truly believe that God knows exactly what you will need for the upcoming year and desires to lead you to make the resolves that he wants you to experience.
That will take Insight, Revelation, Vision, Wisdom and Faith!
